This year marks the 45th anniversary of the physical disappearance of beloved and remembered comedian actor José ′′ Pepe ′′ Biondi, who spent his life amusing others with many characters, both on television and in the popular sphere and to whom in Cuba we had the opportunity to enjoy for several years. Characters like ′′ Pepe Cookie ′′ only handsome in a shirt, ′′ Pepe Curdeles ′′ lawyer casecunsult and manchapels, ′′ Pepe Canario ′′ the little bird singer of the neighborhood, ′′ Pepe Mamboleta private secret police detective «, ′′ Pepe Estropajo ′′ allergic to work, ′′ Pepe Lui ′′ the Andalusian gypsy who liked the gypsy, the chunga and the spout, and his famous ′′ Narciso Bello «, international fame, the one who said, ′′ I’m so beautiful I’m jealous of myself «… Pepe Biondi was an actor example of natural, instinctive, contagious comicity, who fell in love with his audience. The circus was his school but also marked his childhood, in his training, and for five years, he suffered beating that would mark him for life.
He always preferred stunts and touring circuses met Dick (Bernardo Zalman Ber Dvorkin), a Russian immigrant with whom he formed an artistic duo who started in Cordova, Argentina, working as acrobats. But an accident suffered in Chile led to modifying those laps in the air for funny ′′ slaps ′′ and thus marked a new form of artistic presentation. They were innovative in the art of playing with comicity, ways to express and make jokes for everyone. They took tours of Latin America that took them to Brazil, Mexico and
characteristic of the couple was that humor of zero profanity or gestures. They arrived in Cuba in 1948. They toured the island with variety magazines and solos. They performed in circuses, theatres, radio and cabarets, until in 1952 they got an exclusive show on TV. While they struggled to adapt their creativity to that rate of pre-established scripts and comic ideas, the duo took place on Cuban television and in 1953 achieved their greatest success with the creation of the show ′′ The Dick and Biondi «, which aired on primetime.
They also participated as guest artists in Cuban films. The triumph accompanied them until 1955 when they announced the breakdown of their association. Biondi continued the program with librettuses by Alvaro de Villa but with new name,
′′ The Pepe Biondi Show ′′
which became the first comedy show on Cuban television for several years. Jose ′′ Pepe ′′ Biondi, was bald and to get in clown weather, wore wigs. He came to become a screenwriter for his own sketches and if there’s one thing he was clear about what he wanted to stream with his presentations. The constant play with voice, looks and gestures made it unique, as well as the constant handling of the words that also had prominence in their form of humor. For every comedian, ′′ phrases ′′ are very important and identify their work. In ′′ Pepe «, many were famous. Who ever didn’t say ′′ Patap úfete ′′ or ′′ What a phenomenon!» or, in the face of some mess, say, ′′ The fat girl was armed «. Or when I said ′′ Bone for the dog.. Let’s see puppy, bark «.
Or who didn’t say, in the face of some bad news, ′′ Lucky for the misfortune «.
And the phrase Pepe always repeated with renewed grace:
Where do I put me? Where do I stand?» In Cuba, the country that succeeded him, on September 4, 1958 Biondi was kidnapped for one night by a revolutionary command, seeking to tarnish a festival organized by Fulgencio Batista, the slogan was ′′ Tonight Cuba should not laugh «. Returning to Buenos Aires, the entrepreneur Goar Mestre granted him on the brand new Channel 13 Central Friday and so was born the mythical ′′ Watching Biondi «, with short sketches of ′′ healthy and naive ′′ humor, coming to having a high rating and for ten years would be Argentina’s great comedy show. Pepe once said. … To make me laugh I need the face and a good joke; I have the face, but I have to look for the joke every day, because without a good book there is no comedian worth it «. 😀😀😀 ·
